  the dateline show on jws hiding pedophiles was one of several "defining moments" in my process of questioning "the truth".

  See the F&D slave is humble and responsive to criticisms. Yes we've had bad apples and bad local BOEs, but that's what you get with a human organization. Everything's fine. Go back to sleep.

  The cognitive dissonance must be tremendous for the average dub. They fervently believe that god is "directing" the org, but it took stark exposure from prime-time media to force the Society's hand. If this hadn't happened it is likely that it would still be the same old same old. ONLY WHEN the borg sees their bottom line threatened, will they change anything. Lawsuits would hit them where they live.

  Who killed more people "God or Satan"

  isn't interesting to see that god killed a hell a lot of people in the bible compared to the tiny amount satan killed.

  Actually, the bible doesn't have God or Satan personally doing much killing, although the credit was given for the outcome of - for example - any battle the Israelites had with a neighbor. If they won, God "delivered" the enemy into their hands. If they lost, usually it was because God was choked at them for some violation or their attitude or whatever. Regardless, God is given the credit. And since the bible has "God" winning more battles than "Satan", then I'd have to say that "God" has the bigger numbers.

  has the society ever published anything in their meeting mags/books concerning the agreement arising out of the european human rights commission hearing?

  a Fairly Interesting Occurence.

  backstory:.

  i work part time as a "body adornment specialist" which essentially means i'm a body piercer.

  i work at a shop that is owned and operated by someone who is a fairly big deal in the body modification industry.

  Hey Richie, can any of that "lower" body piercing hardware trip the security devices at the airport? I know this couple who decided to go on a runaway to Vegas, and he being a severe diabetic with circulation issues had a stainless steel penile implant but the long and short of it is that he tripped the scanner and had a very embarrasing discussion with airport security.

  I agree with lady lee, and I wish I had the links handy (if they still exist), but on the old H2O site a few years ago there were examples posted where the Society made subtle changes in grammer to fit their doctrine. There are posters here I would imagine that know this stuff already, but if I can find the links I'll post them. Here is a quick example of how a small change can make a huge difference. Can't recall the exact verse etc., but it's when Jesus is hanging just before he dies he says "Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in Paradise."

  Now I'll place the coma in a different place.

  "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise."

  Is it just because i was raised a JW?

  yesterday (sunday) we went to our daughters church for family service as they have these at the end of each term for the kids club (sunday school) and if you don't know about my beliefs that i don't have any and i am one not wanting to have anything to do with any religion.. anyway there are a few things that caught my attention during this service as i normally tune out but they were talking about how jesus was telling a parragul (sp?

  ) about sowing the seeds and then it all came flooding back of the memories about how the jw used this, and you know it was strange as this church was saying things almost identical to what the jw would say.. this is not what i was wanting to mention but i thought this was interesting.. so after all the service they have a morning tea for everyone afterward and i got talking to the minister/father/pastor (don't know what the head person called) wife and the subject come about christmas and i told her that this was not as important as when jesus died and that he wasn't even born on 25th december she was taken back that he was not born on this day as i told her he was born earlier in the year and i explained how this is the reason, she was gob smacked!.

  i thought this was common knowledge so i wonder if she will go back to her husband and ask questions if this is true.. so i ask the question is it common knowledge that jesus was not born on this day and it is a pagan holiday or is it a jw thing.

  I don't think that not wanting to have anything to do with religion is necessarily a bad thing. Religiosity and spirituality are not the same thing.

  i've been hearing more and more talk from the christian right on cable evangelical tv that i find particularly disturbing.

  i actually heard this evangelist suggest that a nuclear strike by israel/u.s./britain against an arab/muslim country would be a fulfillment of the revelation prophecy about "the eyes rotting out of their sockets" etc.

  i guess i just don't like the idea of influential tv evangelists endorsing what would i would call the launching of ww3.. do you think a pre-emptive strike against iran would be seen by the christian right as the beginning of the big "a", led by israel with backing of u.s. and/or britain, in fulfillment of bible prophecy?.

  the watchtower also does not tell new converts that although they closed the door to heaven in 1935 they had closed the door to heaven once before in 1881. they were wrong in 1881 are they wrong again now?

  the question we are compelled to ask is, why did jesus lash out at those who shut up heaven to the common man?
